Ben Butler

Cloud, 2010, poplar, 90 x 124 x 229," Ben Butler
Last Thursday, I went to Rhodes to listen to a lecture given by Ben Butler, an artist and art professor there. The lecture was followed the next day by his art opening at Clough-Hanson Gallery. Very impressive work, to say the least.

William Eggleston

Have you heard that a $15 million museum devoted to William Eggleston is slated to open in Memphis in 2013? My understanding is that the deal isn't finalized, but keep your fingers crossed. This would be HUGE for Memphis! Most of it would be devoted to the artist, and it would house his extensive archives, but the museum would also exhibit contemporary work by other artists. Exciting!
If you're not familiar with Eggleston, he pretty much put color photography on the fine art map. He is from Memphis and currently works and resides here.

Brooks Introduces: Michael Darough

A friend of mine, Michael, has a solo show at the Brooks Museum that runs through January 11, 2011. He gave a talk last week and I checked it out - it's really great! You should go see it over the holidays.
